We continue with our basic guide on "how to design a library". The project we have used as an example, is spread over 3 floors.
In the previous articles we have looked at the following areas:
ground floor : reception area, kids area and teens area,
first floor ; area of reading, books news and books to borrow, dedicated to adults

Today we are addressing instead of the library area that in our project is housed in the basement where were placed the following important services of the library, that we will see one by one

8. AREA MULTIMEDIA - DVD library

This area must be equipped with a control station and workstations for users and must provide for the shelves specially equipped for containment of multimedia materials on specific media such as you see in the image below: You must also always provide even the informal seating.

9. NEWSPAPER AND PERIODICAL LIBRARY and EXHIBITION SPACE

This area must be understood as information area at 360 ° for which it is necessary to provide:
1 - specific shelves with boxes for containing testadas journalistic of different sizes,
2 - an 'area for viewing of Television programs and informational videos with internet terminals / word processing and an exhibition space
This area must be equipped with seating at the table and informal seating.

10. MEETING AREA
you must always be provided in the project an area intended for public meetings, lectures, screenings, with a number of seating appropriate to the type of library. In this room is necessary to provide a conference table, placed on a dais, for at least 4 people,

11. RELAX AREA
near the exit doors, in our project have been included informal seating, and an area destined to take a drink or a coffee. If the size of the library allow is correct include in the project a real coffee bar

12. AREA COMPACTABLE SHELVES

In the design of a public library is always necessary to include an area dedicated specifically to the archive of documents in general, and historical documents. For this function is usually used compactable shelving that maximize the space available, multiplying the storage space.

In our project has been envisaged storing about 20,000 documents, as you can see better in the project in autocad 2d (Annex to download)
