CONVERT DAY TO NIGHT IN PHOTOSHOP

I promised, and I finally found the time to do this tutorial that allows us to manipulate an image or, as in this case a render,  by converting a scene from day to night in Photoshop

Do not be impressed by the number of images that will follow It takes about 10 minutes to get the final result ... Believe me that it takes more time to explain that to do so.
I apologize to everyone for my bad English, and I hope to explain in an understandable way for all :D

this is the initial image as you can see in this render shows a scene of a country house in broad daylight
STEP 1
For one thing duplicate our image so you can always have the original image in case something were to go wrong. is always good practice adopt this rule every time we do the photo editing
From this image We need to delete the sky because in the next steps we will go to touch up the house and garden.
To clear the sky we proceed as follows > use the Quick Selection tool (in this case the size of the selection brush is 36)
STEP 2
On the toolbar, click Selectionreverse selection> erases the background and we'll get this result
STEP 3
proceed by creating a new fill layer, on which we apply a gradient that will replace the sky that we canceled. Then, on the toolbar, click layer > new fill layer > gradient
 STEP 4
we create our own gradient give to color 1 the following value a2babc
STEP 5
we create our own gradient give to color 2 the following value 212c32
STEP 6
Make sure that you are working on layer 2 > In point 2 we will see a preview of our gradient >
3 - click the Gradient tool > 4 - we use linear gradient > 5 - draw a straight line from the bottom to the top, until a little more than half of our image as you see below
STEP 7
Here's our gradient. Now move the layer 2 below Layer 1
STEP 8
Done this you will get this result
STEP 9
We continue creating a new ajustment layer. Then click on > layer > new ajustment layer > hue / saturation and we go to work on the window you see below
STEP 10
Modify the values of hue / saturation as follows: hue +5  / saturation - 53 /  brightness - 56. When you have done, close the window adjustment
(To understand what you are doing, I recommend you to experiment by moving the sliders
back and forth to see what happens by changing the values)
STEP 11
We continue going to act on the regulation of levels: then click on the toolbar> 1 layer > 2 new ajustment layer  > 3 level
STEP 12
Regulate the levels by moving the cursor to the number 19 as shown in the picture below
(To understand what you are doing, I recommend you to experiment by moving the sliders
back and forth to see what happens by changing the values). When you have done, close the window adjustment
STEP 13
We continue going to act on channel mixer: then click on the toolbar > 1 layer > 2 new ajustment layer > 3 channel mixer
STEP 14
We continue going to act on all 3 channels: red, green and blue. Let's see how. When you have done, close the window adjustment. (To understand what you are doing, I recommend you to experiment by moving the sliders back and forth to see what happens by changing the values)
1 red channel
2 green channel
blue channel
STEP 15
Not being satisfied with the result I change the color of intervening with a new adjustment layer hue / saturation. On the toolbar, click Selection  >  new ajustment layer > hue / saturation.
Modify the values  as follows: hue -13 / saturation - 7 / brightness - 10. When you have done, close the window adjustment.
STEP 16
It is time to take action on the sky:
select and open the brushes clouds Make sure that we are working on layer 2.
We paint the clouds as we prefer or according to the needs of the scene. For those who had the brushes can be downloaded at this link
STEP 17
If we think that our sky needs to be clearer, we continue as follows: click on > 1 image > 2 adjustments > 3 brightness/contrast by moving the cursor to the number + 26.  (To understand what you are doing, I recommend you to experiment by moving the slider back and forth to see what happens by changing the values)
STEP 18
Now add the stars. Then click on the toolbar > 1 add a new layer > 2 we open the brushes >3 Select the color white > 4 select between Default brushes those highlighted in the image below and dot after dot, varying the brush size, enjoy yourself to sow the sky with stars.
STEP 19
We're almost done, now just need some tweaking artistic to highlight a few areas of shadows/highlights Save your work in psd in order to preserve working file with all layers, then we merge layers and save a copy in jpg.
The dodge tool is used as a brush and serves to lighten highlights, midtones, and shadows. Acting on the percentage of exposure we get different results: higher the exposure value and more pronounced is the effect it brings.
In this scene I used the dodge tool by selecting > lights > 22% of exposure I bleached the white flowers of the flowerbeds and some parts of tree crowns to create an effect of moonlight.
I recommend you to practice with this tool, you will discover that it is a very useful support in many situations for the post editing.
STEP 20 result 1
STEP 21
If according to your preferences, or according to the needs, do you think it is necessary to further lighten the scene, we proceed as follows:
On the toolbar, click on Image > 2 adjustments > 3 curves. In the dialog box that opens, adjust the curve as characters shown in
We ended and here is the final result
good job to all :D
